My name is Melusi Christopher Macie born on the 12th of December
1989.Everyone calls me Chris for short
but I’m better known as Philo, or A.K.A da Dr Phil haha
I was born and raised in Stanger always had music in my ear
but never really noticed it becoming part of my life, grew up in a big family
surrounded by friends
At the age of 8 I joined the Primary School choir of
Kearsney Primary where I sang till I was at the age of 10, it was a very fun
experience for me, People came to see us every year and they loved it… I never
had a solo act it never occurred to me that I had a gift of singing
professionally
After moving to the suburbs of Stanger Manor in 2002 my
mother passed away, it was very heart breaking for me but it was the love I
have for my sister that made me stronger…I’ve always made it my mission to help
my family through our hardships
I remember around the time when I was 13, I was a very angry
and emotional young boy I must say, always kept to myself minded my own
business, it was not easy for people to open up to me, believe it or not I
didn’t have a fear, nothing bothered me, but I knew I have to finish school so
I can take care of my sister.
I wrote a lot just to try and easy my pain and calm myself
down, eventually I got into poetry, and wrote even more… I wrote to express
myself, I wrote to show people the true side of me and it was a stage where
life was of no meaning to me… but it was something inside me that kept on
telling me to write.
I turned 14 that’s when my life started to change and music
started Blossom as my one true passion
I Heard a Beat boxing radio add, and I was fascinated… so I
tried to imitate it…as time went by I got better and better… Started beat boxing
to a lot of music especially Eminem and 50cent… I knew right then that this is
me… Music it’s in my blood, I loved to beat box and rap, I started to slowly
fall out off poetry and got better and better at writing, putting myself in
peoples shoes and make up stories…I wrote sooooo much that when my Grandmother
found love letters that were sent to me she really thought it was some good
poetry.. Ha-ha Good Times
People started to take notice of my skills so they would pay
to hear me beat box… and I did it all the time in public not realizing the
attention I’m stirring up…I went in and out of groups, went through battles and
I was still not satisfied.. At the age of 16 I heard of Frooty Loops, and
thought wow there is actually a program that can make beats… well I gave it a
try and I think that it was easy for me to make beats because of my skill in
beat boxing... I’d beat box a beat and put it on frooti… I never looked back
since then in terms of my beat making skills.. I later on heard about Sabziro
and SKAY through my friend Clement aka HHF haha and I hunted Subza and found
him, he told me about Stano’s production and I was indeed interested, I’ve
never been to a studio before then so I was eager to see what it looks and
feels like.
The Mass Boys and I went to Stanley and wanted to find
out more about his project there, we liked everything that we saw and heard so
we wanted to give it a try and record a track there unfortunately things didn’t
work out with the crew, a week later Sabziro invited me over to record a track
with him at Stano production… Stanley
heard me singing and everyone in the studio said I was cool ever since I’ve
been making or singing melodies at Stano Productions with the guys were a
family and I won’t deny that
I had a fall out with Stanley over a recording, this
one time I guess the guy really didn’t feel comfortable with me going back to
rap, we sorted that out we cool now and things are better than before we
respect each other and he had me inspired…so I Opened up my own studio at home
in my bedroom and produced tracks for a number of local artists like MASS Boys,
Casanova, The Renegade, and a Few for HHTV
My passion for singing was released in church… I love gospel
music and church basically was a foundation for me… thank you Assembly Of
Believers for believing in me at all times, I will always love you! And don’t
worry this is not a goodbye… I am and always have been a gospel fan.. I feel
that there is a lot of trouble and problems in the industry its up to me to
bringchange, I believe that this is how
God wants to use me, no matter what form of music it is I am always putting him
first!!! And my music is clean, power packed and versatile
I love to differ.
Right now I am an I.T Technician for the Kwadukuza
Municipality, I have nothing but hope and faith in my music and the direction,
I want my first album to be a hit so I’m taking as much time on it as I possibly
can and I pray that it takes me far and put s my name up on the list as South
Africa’s best
5years from now I see myself as a very successful guy, you
know just living a happy life, married with kids haha I just love the idea of
having me a family. And a very powerful business man, I want to be involved
with my community there’s a lot of things that I have in mind just to try and
help out the kids here but my name and music are the key to those things coming
to fulfillment, I also very obviously want to be the best beat maker in the
country and better singer haha I’m almost there just need to pick up on a few
tricks or two and find another sound that people will remember me by... I want
the world to recognize KZN and S.A as a very Inspire ring place for music and
music videos and I want to be in charge of that.
I’m different and that’s how I am… I have been around the
circuit and I’ve seen what people do just to try and be cool... I just want to
be me and bring you the sounds that I play in my subconscious state of mind… I
wanted to use my name as a stage name Chris or Philo just to prove to people
that this is me but Stano didn’t like it and yes I admit it didn’t have any
spark in it but somehow the name Chris-p came up and I love it… it is me!
I’m a very open minded person as you will understand from my
music… I love a challenge and believe me, the best is yet to come. I want to
accomplish something amazing, I know that I am here for a reason, I will find
it and fulfill my destiny.
God is Great and is Good all the Time
Summary By Stano:
This is my view as a producer. I see this young man becoming a phenomenon Artist who will no doubt bring a new face in the South African RnB & Hip Hop music. His ability to write inspiring lyrics; song arrangement gives him more abilities to make it to be one of the best in South Africa. Working with Chris-P it's always a pleasure to me. well there was a time where we just couldn't put our heads together especially that I saw what he was capable of as an RnB Artists but he didn't want to hear he just wanted to rap then we couldn't agree so he swore his way out of the studio. Well knowing what he is capable of as far as music is concerned I knew that there will come a day when the baby in him will cry out and it did. He called me and said "Stano I want to work" and I said I was just about to call you and tell you that the papers are still waiting for you.
Well we got into the studio and things are very different; I work much better with him more than any other Artist I have worked with.
The future for this young man is looking good... That is my final word in regards.
